Are HDTV service contracts worth getting?

The manufacturer has a one year warranty, but these sellers are advising to get one. For one 350 buck lcd, it recommended a three year contract that costs 110 bucks. I know it's a waste, but doing research on reviews, many complaints about them breaking. How sturdy are these things anyways? Do they last or break after a year? I won't be buying a cheap brand, but is it safe to just buy the LCD and take it home and use it as a television?

  1. Absolutely a horrible deal. Consumer Reports show that these things have less than a 5% repair rate in their first 3 years. Their selling you a warranty that costs 30% the price of your TV. The store sells off the warranty contract to a service company and pockets about 70% of that fee in profits.
