is internet regulation by the government on its way?

and is there anything that can be done against it ? i saw two worrying stories recently , one on the news night program on bbc2 and the other right here on the yahoo answers blog . i fear that these stories and announcements are false reasons put forward by big corporations and big government , false excuses and fabricated reasons to cease control on the internet ? here was the story on the news night program ; Unprotected home computers vulnerable to hijack http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/newsnight/9393765.stm ''Protect your home computer or you could unwittingly help to launch a cyber attack, experts are warning. They say the rise in such attacks risks undermining critical national infrastructure and the future of the global economy. '' Botnets, or infected computers, whether in a citizen's personal computer or a corporate computer, are being used to launch these DDoS attacks against key industries and against governments Melissa Hathaway, former White House cyber tsar '' An infected computer could be part of a botnet without you knowing or realising, so the more you protect your own assets the less the risk is that your computer is part of a botnet, the smaller the potential of botnets are, and the smaller any of the future attacks would be '' Cyber terrorism Proposal for rules of engagement to be put to world leaders Proposal for cyber war rules of engagement http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/newsnight/9386445.stm thats just a small bit i included from those news article , you really must read it to realise the full danger. and on the yahoo answers blog : Stay safe online with Yahoo! On February 8, 2011, Yahoo! will be joining forces with INSAFE, to celebrate Safer Internet Day and to help raise awareness about safety online. plus yahoo announced that soon you will be able to log in yahoo answers from a google account like you have to do on youtube . i really do fear that these are coordinated efforts by the government and corporations to '' control, regulate '' the internet ? does anyone have thought about this or see the danger ? appreciate constructive opinions . thanks.

  1. China has tried to regulate access to the Internet but people still manage to get round the restrictions. The US Government have tried to stop Wikileaks. But they have failed so far. The Internet is not controlled by any one government or organisation. It is very difficult for any one government to make much difference to it, apart from in their own country.
  2. The statement: i really do fear that these are coordinated efforts by the government and corporations to '' control, regulate '' the internet ? How about the real truth that this will control people, not the Internet. Even the US Presidents wants it set up so when you log onto the Internet it will automatically Identify who you are and monitor all the activity you do on the Internet. So rumor has it. They already have the ability to shut it down to the point you can not communicate outside the country you live in, so how much power is simply too much power would be a better question.
  3. My view is they will Keep trying, and Keep Failing. Click the Link to Read A Post of mine, It's @ the Bottom. http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AvWOR7TY66xZ__emOjY9O60hBgx.;_ylv=3?qid=20110210083800AAYBsIb They Have Alot Of Competition :)
  4. I'm confident that the internet is safe from the US government's clutches. Those old windbags don't know enough about how technology works to even try! And if they did, we'd just get around it, like people on the internet always do. They can try, but nothing is going to happen. They'll threaten though, which is enough to mess with the minds of the majority of the people that browse online.
