How much do you pay for your safe deposit box? Advice Please!?

I want to put some things in a safe deposit box - how much does yours cost per year? I only need a very small one... probably the smallest they have- do you use your home town bank or a big branch? What's the best way to make sure your valuables are safe at the bank? I've heard about thievery happening within the banks - so should I also catalog these things at home? I just inherited some jewelry that I think would be best in a bank, as I have some unsavory relatives. So what is your advice?
