Funeral question: Do I have to buy the urn vault at the cemetery place?

Do I have to buy the vault for the urn at the cemetery place(for the urn to be buried) or can I get it at a wholesaler without them charging me a high fee?

  1. I don't think you have to buy a vault for the urn. I would assume you could have them buried in the ground and pay for a place marker as you would a regular grave. Talk with the the mortuary people. Let them know what you want done. I don't think there is such a thing as a wholesaler in vaults.
  2. No, of course not! They charge a premium for them their, don't they? I just searched eBay and there are hundreds and you get many many hits when you Google them. You can place them in a cookie jar too, if you want to, and nobody can tell you 'NO'! I personally know someone who made a metal can and waterproofed it and put his Grandfather's cremated remains inside. Grandfather sat under a favourite tree for years before he died and my friend buried the ashes under the living tree. Now,whenever he stops or even drives by he can say hi to grandpa! .
