  1. Replace the outlet. They cost about 50 cents. Hook it up just like the old one.
  2. PRINT OUT/SAVE AND REFER TO THESE INSTRUCTIONS. Turn off your computer normally, then turn the switch on the back off. After you finish with new plug and try the computer (if it is a desk top) you may have to reset the date and time in your "BIOS". First turn of the electricity to the plug from the main circuit breaker/fuse box. Just touching the grounding plug shouldn't harm you but I don't take chances. Get a pair of needle nose pliers or then hymastats and try to pull it out. If that don't work. With the power off, 1. take off the face plate, set it face down and place the screw on it. 2. Unscrew the two (top and bottom) screws. They may come out completly or still being held on the the plug via a carbord round washer. Safe these screws. 3. Pull out the plug. Get a piece of paper and wright down the color and location of each wire. Some times it is more than one most times it is Black and a White one, sometimes they may be the same color. So write it down. 4. Depending on the type of plug, unscrew the wires from the side. The screws will be copper and/or silver tone or lighter and darker. Anyway, make a note and replace the wires to the same sides. If they are not on the side but in the middle of the back of the plug, take a small nail push it in the hole just above the wire, that releases it and pull the wire out at the same time. 5. Push the wires in the hole/box then the plug and attatch it with the screws that came out of the old plug. 6. Replace the face plate turn on the power. BEFORE YOU PLUG IN YOUR COMPUTER. Get some type of appliance, like a lamp or hair dryer, plug it in. If it works then plug in your computer. If it won't work it will pop and see a spark. That means you have the wires placed on the wrong sides. Start over with a NEW plug and reverse the wires. Since you are a do it yourselfer, I suggest, going to Lowe's and get a basic electricity book. And each time you have a project you need to learn buy a book for it. I don''t know your knowledge level but I made it as simple as I could. Good Luck.
