Fallout: New Vegas quest I could make you care?

i started this quest and got the pulse gun from vault 34. it said to go back to elder mcnamara with veronica and show him the pulse gun. Veronica just stares at the elder then they both stare at me. The conversation between the two never starts and I can't finish the quest. can some one help me?

1. uninstall and then reinstall if dont work mabye they will make a patch BTW if you uninstall you wont lose your save data unless you choose to so no harm
2. It's probably for lack of the latest patch, or a conflicting mod, or playing on console instead of PC, which, with a game this buggy, would be an exercise in frustration.
