Can police destroy your safe box in your home if you refuses to open it?
If the police have a search warrant at your house and they want to open your safe, can they force open it? I know they probably could if the dog thinks it is drugs in there, but could they if they didn't have any good reason for it?

- If they have a search warrant then they have reason to believe you are hiding something so yes.
- Assuming the police have a warrant, the police could destroy the safe and arrest the owners for failing to obey the police in opening the safe.
- If they have a warrant, they can blow it to kingdom-come if they desire.
- If the search warrant includes the safe, yes they can. And if you do not get arrested for any crime, it will be replaced at your expense.
- If the warrant allows searching the safe, they can legally do whatever is necessary to search the safe. A warrant to search for drugs would cover any safes, unless it was written by a FOOL. The existence of the safe, combined with sufficient reason to issue a warrant for something that would fit in the safe ARE good reason to search the safe.
- Search warrant + your refusal to voluntarily open it = good reason to force the safe open.
