How do you keep your saddle safe?
This is basically a poll.. If you board, or others have 'access' to your tack, how do you keep it safe? Do you bring it to your private home after every ride? Do you have a trunk to lock it up in? Is it in a private tack room just for you? Or do you not care one bit? I have my own private tack room thank goodness!

- mine also is private
- Our barn is 99% adults, and the other 1% is kids young enough to have adult supervision at all times, so its not really an issue. We have one communal tack room, everyone has a "spot" and the tack room is kept locked, so no one except boarders can enter. I keep stuff that I am really picky about in my horse trailer. I boarded in a place that had a tack room lined with individual floor to ceiling tack lockers, that was nice too. Except that, after 45 years of riding, I have a LOT of stuff that I like to keep handy! I keep my show saddle in the house.
- I keep it in the tack room in the barn at my house I doubt someone would steal it I also have dogs that are our personal alarm system.
- Guard dogs
- Well I keep my *locked* trailer on the boarding property and that is where my 6,000$ worth of saddles sit inside lol. Not to mention my show clothing and headstalls and bridles. I trust that no one will break into it; there's no windows- just a vent so only a slim person can jack that off and break in but good luck trying to slip my western saddle out ! And yes, I have a custom lock on the hitch and it weighs well over 3,500 lbs so you're not gunna walk down the highway with it. =) Pretty well much I trust everyone at the place I board- It's a private boarding facility and there's been no one new since like 2005 or something. And NO stranger is allowed inside any of the shared tack rooms or barns (they do other events at the facility.) Nothing has ever gone missing from that place... well tack wise... someone lost a deep freezer there LOL but that must've gotten junked... @ you, you're lucky to have a private tack room ! I don't know what I'd do if I had to store all of my show tack at my house or something lol.
- I have an expensive saddle (paid $4,000) and I leave it in the tack room at our barn with everyone else's tack. The room is locked when we are not there. I don't worry about someone stealing it, although it did cross my mind when I have boarded at other facilities in the past that were much larger. This is also at a private home, so there is little traffic in and out of the tack room.
- My barn is at home so my tack room is private. However, my saddles are in the house to keep them safe from dust and stink bugs.
