How do you reach to decorate a stair wall ?

we need a safe way of wallpapering a 8 fooot high wall on a stairway without breaking our necks?

Books on painting show a scary-looking contraption consisting of a tall ladder at the foot of the stairs, holding a sturdy plank, with the other end of the plank on the landing. Not me, babe.
