Safe Luxury

What is a good way to archive digital photos on the internet?

I had a yahoo! photos account, and thought it was a safe and convenient way to keep my digital photos safe. I move around alot and don't want to loose them. Just recently I found out that Yahoo Photos is closing down and will delete all pictures. I want a better way to store my images, the online version is my back up copy. Is there a way to store my images on a personal website etc? Are there any other options?

  1. Snapfish---its free http://www.snapfish.com/welcome
  2. www.esnips.com - it is free and u can store anything in this website. it gives u lot of free space even. try it out. if u think even this may shut down in the future, then u please go for a personal website and store all of your pictures there. good luck.
  3. Most folks would tell you to join one of the many "free" photo groups like Snapfish, Webshots, Club Photo, there are many of these. But if and when they make a change, you are then forced to download them back to your computer or lose them altogether. That's not a very convenient archive. Your best bet is to create your own FTP site or, better yet, move the photos onto your own disc or portable HD.
  4. http://www.flickr.com/ --->check it out!, u won't be disappointed... also, apart yahoo, google has own on-line photo albums, but it's got rather small size...it is included in its gmail service and supports its picasa soft for basic editing (which is, BTW, free to download)
  5. In general, any free online service is not as reliable as a paid service. I have a lot of digital images myself which I have stored and backed up on different media but to rely on the internet as your main storage is not a good idea. DVDs are cheap only one DVD will enable you to put 4.7GB of pictures on it, it's also very easy to carry around when traveling
  6. flickr is awesome. you can get a limited free service, but the pay service is not very expensive and is so worth it...
