Is it possible to have hummingbirds your home?
I was wondering if I had a huge greenhouse added onto my house, with a ton of tropical vegetation, would it be legal to have the hummingbirds in my home, to keep them safe.

- I don't think it would be that good for the bird unless it is a giant green house.
- Don't take them from the wild. Its wrong taking animals out of their natural habitat.
- leave them be just hang up feeders.
- What are you keeping them safe from? I don't see any reason to take them in.
- Its illegal and I cant imagine it being in their best interest either.
- I have heard of baby humming birds (rescued of course) being taken care of until they were adults. I dont know about keeping an adult hummingbird though. (Fantasy: IT would be cool as hell if like a hummingbird would be able to be kept as a pet and it would be trained to like float around ur shoulder. Just a fantasy)
- You don't need to keep them in the greenhouse for them to be safe, just hang some feeders out for them to eat. Be sure if you do, to keep them clean and the food fresh. They are great to watch, they do migrate. When depends on where you are of course.
- sorry, it is illegal to keep hummingbirds as pets. They would be very hard to keep alive. Although they feed a lot on nectar, insects are a main portion of their diet which they would probably not be able to obtain in a greenhouse. Probably could not even get the proper amount of nectar there either. Why not hang some hummingbird feeders in your yard and enjoy them in the wild as they are meant to be.
