Do you think that keeping guns in a home is safe? Why or why not?

- For a family of two, at least three guns...For a family of three or more, two guns per family member should be sufficient.
- No it is not safe! Accidental shootings happen often!
- Gimme a gun! You have the right to bear arms!
- No I don't,'cause an angry relative might wan revenge on something.
- accident waiting to happen, especially w/ kids
- If you live alone, there is no harm. If you have a family, then its OK, provide you take every precaution to ensure they are always locked in a safe when not in use.
- I don't think it's safe in the slightest, even if someone just wants it to protect themself or their family. So many people pick up a gun and accidently shoot someone. There are better ways to protect yourself/your family.
- I think its a matter of personal opinion, however, if you have kids in the house, Safety is of the utmost importance Please be careful to lock everthing in a safe place that is not accessible
- i have guns in my home,,,,put up in a safe place....i feel better knowing that its there .......
- I don't think guns should be kept in the home. I have had a couple bad experiences with weapons and think they are bad news.
- AS long as the gun owner has a bit of common sense, it's as safe as keeping knives in the silverware drawer. Anyone with children under the age of 12 should not keep loaded weapons anywhere. Lock them in a gun safe, store the ammo separately, and make sure kids know that they are absolutely off-limits. Also teach them why, and if they are interested, how to use them.
- No it is not safe ,there are many children killed each year from guns in the home.If you pull a gun the chances of it being turned on you is great.
- Thats hard because I know it's for protection, but some many things happen that shouldn't when a gun is in the house. I used to think it was safe but I don't anymore, I say buy a alarm system. Even if the person who's the gun they can still get into trouble if they use the gun it the town the live in does not allow by law that it ok to have the gun in the house
- Although I respect everyone's right to have one, I choose not to. My kids are small and I do not want any accidents. I have pepper spray and a little shocking gun. Good enough in case of immediate danger. When I lived on my own, I did have one and had the proper training to go with it.
- It depends upon what kind of gun it is and who the residents and people living in the house are. I believe some guns are much more dangerous than other guns, and accidents may occur. For children living in the house, make sure the gun is in a safe place in which children cannot reach it, and in a place where it's easily accessible in case of an emergency. If neccessary, teach children about the danger of weapons.
- AS a member of both the ATA and the NRA I have several. They are all secure. My family are all well trained in their use and safety. We are more competition target shooters rather than hunters, though I generally get my own Goose for Thanksgiving. I am also an ex-Air force 45cal marksman that darn strait can protect my home and family. Sam. I know you are young and naive. Since nearly every state in the union has passed a right to carry law, gun crime has gone WAY down. The "mainstream" left leaning media seldom reports the many cases when a ordinary armed citizen thwarts a criminal element because they support the anti gun lobby.
- guns in the home are not safe. what do you do when you have a child. you lock it up... wrong then what is the point of having the gun if you are not using it to protect your family.but what if you leave it unlocked... well bye bye babby. now i'm not one to pulls staticts but alot of breaking and entering deaths happen with theier own gun.
- Guns in a home or anywhere else are not safe. However, when one considers self-defense, you had better have a gun. I would keep the gun in a non-descript place in my home, under a combination lock. I would let the other responsible adults in my family know the combination and show them how to fire the gun properly. Otherwise, I am not trying to be a gun toting person.
- every home should have a gun, if you teach children when they are young about guns they won't play with them like toys, its not your right its your resopnsability to have guns, look what happend to germany when they took all of the guns away. i dont want to play nozi america so everyone get a gun, know how to use it and don't ever let them take that right away.
- Yes it can be safe with proper precautions such as trigger locks or a gun safe.
- I think if it's a matter of safety, the money would be better invested in security locks and an alarm system. I'd rather have the police show up to shoot someone trying to break in rather than spending ten years paying lawyer fees to explain why I felt it necessary to shoot someone....PLUS what if someone breaks in without a gun, they take yours and shoot you with it....it might even look like a suicide if the gun is registered in your own name. Leave the guns in the hands of people who are trained to deal with criminals. In the meantime...lock your door and keep a well oiled chainsaw under your pillow.
- there are at least 20 shotguns in my house.Everyone here knows how to use them and respect them
- With over 600 million guns in the US it's logical to understand that private posession of firearms is and will be a prized Contstitutional gaurantee. As such firearms in the home is a right. Making safe and respsonsible decisions is incumbent on each adult in that household. I urge anyone who has firearms or children to take a hunter education class in your area or online. The classes are usually free and even if youre not a hunter it will acquaint you with firearms and storage procedures.
