Is it better to put important stuff in a home safe or leave them around and about in various places?

Is it better to put important stuff in a home safe or leave them around and about in various places? Does a home safe have 'take me' written all over it and serve as a beacon for theives? Is it better to not put all the stuff in one place? Of course, one can always put stuff in a safety box at the bank, but bankers hours aren't always convienent. What are your thoughts..Is it better to keep a home safe or not? Thanks.
