Can I find out if my dad had a safe deposit box even though he died?

He died in November, and mentioned his will was in one. His will actually was in his safe at home, so I just figured he was confused due to his illness. His regular bank says no, he didn't have one there. Is it possible for me to track one down, if he has one somewhere? There really is nothing in his papers to make me think he has one. His will was 15 years old, so that was pretty standard. I just feel like I'm missing something.

1. This is gonna be a tough one. My suggestion is go through all his old papers and see if he has letters from any banks that he does not have an account at. Look for odd keys on his key ring. Also check any mail that may come within the next year to see if any are from a bank reminding him to renew his safety deposit box.
2. Check all the banks, ie hsbc, barclay, lloydstsb, or whatever bank. He may have banked at one of these a long time a go and then changed banks.
3. Safety deposit boxes often charge a fee on an annual basis...so go through all your dad's bank statement if you see one.
