Safe Luxury

I just bought a home security safe, is it better to mount it to the wall or the floor?

I guess I could put it in a corner and do both...but the instructions say not to do that. I remembered in my grandfathers house his safe was built right into the concrete floor in the basement. When the house was built they poured the concrete for the foundation right around the safe, then bolted the safe into the concrete from the inside. But that's not possible for me...

  1. Mount it on the floor it is much easier and easier to hide if necessary. Mine is mounted in my closet floor and I have some items around it. No one would even know its there. Sometimes I can't even find it. HA HA
  2. If the instructions say not to mount it on the wall, it's because of the weight of the safe. If you absolutely have to mount it on the wall, you will have to remove the drywall, and add supporting bracing, and build a shelf to support the weight of the safe. Without these additional supports, the safe could fall and hurt somebody.
  3. Roof is better.
  4. I jack hammered a whole is the slab in the closet and put in the safe and poured concrete around it. I put the carpet over the top and no one can see it.
