- I suggest reading the book "Always Use Protection" that discusses these issues in detail.
- best way is to set up a new connection and try to connect without the security password. Go to the network panel in the control panel and you'll track it down from there. If the router you use hasn't had the standard password and username changed though, it won't really matter whether the security is set up on your netowrk or not.
- as a general rule, the bt home hubs come with encryption turned on by default so you've probably not much to worry about. if you're still concerned, this page will give you all the information you need regarding your hub's security: http://bt.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/bt.cfg/php/enduser/cci/bt_adp.php?p_sid=QJmCRCTi&cat_lvl1=346&cat_lvl2=401&cat_lvl3=407&cat_lvl4=751&p_cv=4.751&p_cats=346,401,407,751&p_faqid=10490 but specifically, if you have have wep encryption turned on you might want to switch it over to wpa encryption because your wep password can be easily cracked by someone with the means and motivation to do it - here's how to do it: http://bt.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/bt.cfg/php/enduser/cci/bt_adp.php?cat_lvl1=346&cat_lvl2=401&cat_lvl3=407&cat_lvl4=751&p_cv=4.751&p_cats=346,401,407,751&p_faqid=10360
- Hello When you first connected it should have asked you to connect using the WEP key. If you right click the hub icon usually on your toolbar open utility. You will then see the various settings for your hub. Alternatively click the hub manager and you will again see your relevant hub details. Hope this helps Cheers
- BTU Home Hubs have a security key enabled by default. It is shown on the outside of the hub and is awkward to disable so my guess is that you are secure. wdw
- Just view all available connections and it will tell you if yours and your neighbours are encrypted.
- I assume you are using BT and have the BT wireless connection program which when activated searches for available connections and lists them Against each router in the list is a padlock locked or unlocked. With luck your is the only homehub in the list and has the padlock locked meaning it is protected by the 'wep' code Another way is to place your pointer over the connection sign -icon- bottom right and it will show which router you are connected to and if it is wep protected Always check this in case you have connected to someone elses unprotected router Right click on this icon opens the wireless connection programme allowing you to connect to a router of your choice
- Hi, It is secured by default but I think you can check it out in the 'Hub Manager' if you installed the software that was on the BT home hub disk. You can also change the security codes there too. Merry Christmas to you my friend.
