flying home for thanksgiving... what are security guidelines?

I am flying home for Thanksgiving and I need to know a couple of things about luggage and security guidelines. First, can I take bottles/fluids (mouthwash, shampoo, etc) that are regular size if I put them in a bag in my checked luggage? Second, can I take knitting needles (size 10, if it matters) in my carryon so that I can knit during the flight? Finally, I got my father a CD, and I want to put it in the checked luggage (between my clothes and my towels for padding/safe travel). Would the x-rays for the luggage mess the CD up?

  1. Yes you can put the shampoo and all that in the CHECKED luggaage. not carry on. I would definately think no to the knitting needles...put them in your checked, other wise they will make you throw them away. The CD won't get ruined. I travel alot and always have either CD's, DVD, etc with me and never a problem. You can't even carry a lotion in your carryon! I did that recently, it was a brand new bottle of Jergen's lotion, and they told me I had to throw it away!! Have a safe flight
  2. You can check anysize bottle of liquids. (Um, doesn't your family have towels, shampoo & mouthwash?) No knitting needles in your carry on. No problem transporting CDs. You're one of those people who hideously overpack aren't you?
  3. Fluids of any size are OK in checked baggage. Xrays will not hurt the CD. You *can* take knitting needles on the plane.
  4. Security rules can change hourly, check before leaving home or as soon as you get to the airport to find out what level they are at and what is allowed in your carry on.
