If I install Apache on my PC, will this punch a security a hole?

I want to know if it's safe to install an Apache server on my PC. Is it safe? Can it be installed on home PC's just for testing and experimentation purposes? Does it create a hole in your security measures? How safe is it?

1. Yes, it is safe to install Apache. As with any application, so long as it is protected by a firewall, then no-one outside your computer can attack it.
2. The very latest version of Apache should be somewhat safe. You'll want to make sure that you check for updates on a regular basis to make sure it stays safe.
