my cat is allergic to mosquito bites, any safe home remedies out there?
my cat gets terrible bumps on his ears and i have figured out over time that it is mosquitos. they don't bother him that much but it looks terrible and when he scratches them sometimes they open and put him at risk for infection. i've called the vet and even his insurance company for help but they have no cure. i have slowed the problem with a weak mixture of skin-so-soft and water but still the problem persists. p.s. i'm not putting catnip oil on my cats head, he's hyper enough already. there is no professional product for repelling mossquitos from cats. he won't eat anything that smells like garlic and the problem with mosquitoes at my house has to do with an abundance of city land that is unkempt, i can't control that. as for keeping the cat inside, not going to happen. i could keep my kids inside also and that would prevent them from a lot of communicable diseases and other problems, that is also not going to happen. if i kept him inside i'd just have to worry about a whole different set of problems...obescity, depression, poisoning...

- Keep the cat inside - Problem Solved!
- If the bites appear to be itchy and/or swollen you can give him Children's Benadryl. I had to do that with my cat once when he had a reaction from a vaccination shot. I think you need to look at keeping kitty in the house during peak mosquito hours. Mosquitos can carry disease that is very harmful to animals.
- Try to keep the cat out.
- Find a good garlic supplement for cats at a good pet store. They have several kinds. Some sprinkle on the food . Which I think is easier . My cat has no problems eating it. I know that your cat can get mosquito bites even if they are inside. The little buggers fly in when I open my door! Best of luck!
- flea medecine or just keep him inside and maybe buy a bug light they are attracted to it and will die
- here are some home remedies.. Apply lime juice diluted with water on bites with cotton ball. *Apply toothpaste (not gel) to the area *Apply hemorrhoid cream *Moisten skin, rub meat tenderizer on bite. *Moisten salt to a paste and apply it to bite. *Rub soap on bite. *Apply paste made of baking soda and water *1-percent hydrocortisone cream to alleviate the itching. *Use an anti-inflammatory drug such as ibuprofen or naproxen to reduce any accompanying swelling or redness. Paint the mosquito bite with clear nail polish, it stops the itching.
- I was going to say skin so soft. I use it on my dog and it works great. Have you tried frontline or something like that? It's supposed to keep mosquitos away.
- go to a pet store i think they will have some kind of bug spray for pets

- our vet told us that the benedryl cream works very well and we have been using it eversince.
- Skin so soft is a little oily...try rubbing garlic on him. HONEST!!
- feed your kitty brewers yeast tablets everyday. it keeps its coat shiny and it keeps flies, ticks, and mosquito's. It might take a week or two before it repels the bugs completely. If you decide to get anti-pest drops i would get it from your vet, DONT BUY HARTS REPELLENT!! It is very dangerous to kitties who are sensitive to bug bites, believe me. I had to watch my cat go through seizure after seizure ALL night long. Its realy heart breaking :(
- Oh, how terrible! My grandmother have small kitten and love to play outside even during the mosquito season. The resultis that poor kitten have the rash and nasty bumps near the stomach. She researched and she found the safe remedies for the kitten and cats: 1. Tea tree oil and grapefruit seed extract use in safely destroying viruses, bacteria, molds, yeasts and parasites that want to live in us and on us. 2. Use banana peel to take the itch out of mosquito bites. Just rub the pulpy inside surface of the peel on the bite. 3. Rub the bite with soap. 4. Apply an ice pack to the bite. 5. Mix baking soda with enough water to make a paste and apply to the bite. 6. Apply lavender and tea tree oils with a swab. 7. Rub a piece of freshly-cut onion on the bite. 8. A dab of toothpaste is soothing, too. 9. Apply lime juice diluted with water on bites with cotton ball. Those remedies works better on the cats or kittens but works best if you love your pets!
- try mixing Blue dawn soap and vinager this works for flies it may work with skeeters
- Keep him inside at prime mosquito times. Mosquitoes are carriers of heartworm, which a cat can get, too (not just dogs). There isn't a cure for them once they have them. Just one more reason to hate skeeters!
- It is my understanding that a very small dose of benedril the same kind as for humans. Will help. I know for a fact (raised over 40 kitties in my life) many of the same cures for humans help animals as well. I would purchase a bottle of liquid benedril made for children and put a very (weight limits will be listed on lable do the math) small amount in her food. Do not give her milk if she is a grown cat. They like the taste but it is very bad for the kitty's health. Also you may put a bit of calamine lotion on and see if it helps. (That is if kitty does not clean it off). Also call another vet. it certainly can not hurt. Keep kitty in for a few day as well. Give it time to heal.
- Get in a shop of aromatherapy, citric essences those put away mosquitos.
- make your remedy a little stronger or just use off like you would on you...make sure he isnt allergic to that
- I'm not sure if this will work for your cat, but it's worth a shot. We put a little vinegar in our collies' water bowls and it keeps them away very well, you may want to check with your vet before doing this, though.
- Mix 2 tbls of lemon amonia and 2 tbls of lemon dish detergent and put in a spray bottle and fill with water, about 1 qt. Spray the cat before going out. This also works on your lawn and patio area. The measurements are 1 c. of each to a 20 gal.water jug that fits onto your hose and mixes the water and mix as it goes through. Spray about 2-3 times a wk right before the cat or you go out. It will last several days. There isn't enough amonia to hurt the cat either.
- AVON SKIN-SO-SOFT WORKS ON MY DOG AND IT COMES IN A SPRAY BOTTLE. ASK YOU VET IF IT IS O.K. FOR CATS, FIRST.
- get bathe your cat with anti-mosquito oil dissolve in water everyday.
- try to fix your place first, no mosquitos- no mosquito bites...

- feed ur cat garlic tablets.mosquito's tend to avoid anyone or thing that eats garlic on a regular basis.it helpful healthy and very safe.this will help in avoiding bites all together,so u dont have to rub your cat with onions, and hemorrhoid cream..lmao.imagine what his cat friends are saying about him.
- There is no cure..keep your cat indoors where it belongs.
- We use frontline for our dog. You can check on www.800petmeds.com for cat remedies. I would grind up garlic pills and put it in the cat food. Garlic is a natural remedy against mosquitoes. You can also try a citrus smelling lotion that mimics the smell of Citronella candles. Give your cat children's benedryl when he gets bit to calm the itching so he doesn't have to scratch them so much. Good luck!
- Revolution from Pfizer is complete and protects against Heartworm disease, u can drop once a month in his neck.
- keep using the skin so soft and sprinkle garlic powder on his food. His breath will totally stink but that should help. Good Luck!!
- I find it amazing that no one has suggested this yet...brewer's yeast. I have a friend who says her cat just loves the tablets. It's the B vitamins that keeps fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes away.
- Garlic discourages pests from biting. Just chop some garlic & put it in your kitty's food.
- excuse me! but any elementary vet must have a cure ! you must go to an pet magazine!
