What is a safe free personal firewall that I can download to my windows xp home computer?

  1. Windows offers a built-in firewall but only blocks incoming traffic. If you need inbound and outbound protection you will want to download and use a different firewall, get either Comodo or ZoneAlarm (either of which is free). Comodo's free version is better than ZoneAlarms (see consumersearch source), it passed all leak tests. The free version of ZoneAlarm isn't that great, the paid for version of ZoneAlarm is. The question of which is better has been asked several times: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AnI3umNR9exEXTPcU6ZRAzQjzKIX?qid=20070821165327AAorxK0
  2. Buy a router. Seriously... much better firewall than any Downloadable Windows software.
  3. if you want a good and easy one thats free go to www.filehippo.com and get comodo and make sure it is version 2.4
  4. I would suggest Zone Alarm and use and antivirus. A router does not have a firewall in it. It has an NAT but that does little of what you want. Get a good firewall from the people who make your anti virus.
  5. Try Comodo firewall
  6. Shut down Windows Firewall, if you have not already as you can only use one firewall. A true fiewall must protect you from rogue incoming packets and also protect your personal data in your pc. Windows Firewall only protects from incoming packets. Download if you like what I use the free home for personal use Zone Alarm. I test once per week with software and Zone Alarm free is leak proof. http://www.zonealarm.com All updates will download auto. to you. Recommned that you perform a clean install. Minddoctor, France
  7. I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following link. http://www.computeractive.co.uk/... On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps
