Safe Luxury

What is the safest, all-natural, biodegradeable, flushable cat litter?

I'm adopting a kitten this weekend, so i went and bought all my cat supplies tonight and was looking for the safest, all natural, bio/earth friendly, flushable litter i could find, and i found Swheat Scoop Cat litter. When I got home, I googled it, and stumbled upon some reviews on it... they were very mixed... some people said it was great, some said it was awful and recommended "Worlds Best Cat Litter" So let me know what you think/recommend.

  1. I would go with the worlds best cat litter
  2. http://www.elegantcatlitter.com/elegantcat.htm has information on Elegant Cat litter. It is very good, I used it when I had cats. Check it out! =)
  3. call the vet they know or go to petsmart they have a special litter that is ment to be flushed and won't clog your toilet. but I would try "Worlds Best Cat Litter" sounds good.
  4. I can't remember the one we got but it's made out of recycled newspaper which is recommend as well if you declaw. It can be found at most pet supply stores. The others I found online were, worlds best, one earth and clump n flush.
  5. I have used both. Both are good, although I've never flushed either, b/c I have a septic tank and am neurotic. I feel that both work about the same really. Both clump very well and are earth friendly being wheat or corn- plant based! Both litters have minimal tracking and I had no trouble switching my cats to either. The only difference I found was....PRICE. 17# - for $19 or 40# for 23, Budget-wise I like Swheat Scoop. It depends how you like it really. Good Luck
  6. If it's flushable you want, teach your kitty to pee in the pot. Check out the specialty areas of pet supply catalogs. If it doesn't have to go down the toilet, my strong recommendation is Everclean clumping cat litter - but not until the kitten has become a cat - not before (little kittens have a tendency to try to lick the litter and it can cause major problems!) If it's natural/biodegradeable, then go for shredded newspaper. There is a pine product that is supposed to be every so earth friendly - but if we really want to be earth friendly, we'd just put some dirt in a pan and have the kitten trained to go in there. But ... we're not that eco-friendly. We want our kittens to have clean paws, their poo not to smell, and insist on manufactured dirt. And .... make certain that your new kitten is fully weaned (I recommend 12 weeks) and socialized, AND make an appointment now to get it spayed/neutered when it's old enough. Keep your kitten inside the house. Do not let it outside. There are too many ways for the wee one to hurt itself and to pick up diseases, fungi, fleas, etc.
  7. I really like World's Best Cat Litter. However, depending on the area where you live, you have to be careful about flushing cat litter. Recently, Worlds Best Cat Litter (always advertised as flushable) has sent out releases to businesses that carry it (at least in California) that it SHOULD NOT be flushed anymore. Sea Lions and other sea life off the coast are becoming affected with feline parasites and spreading them around. The oceanlife are not able to handle some parasites, and it is becoming a very big problem. So, I would not advise you to flush any pet waste if you live near any coastlines....
  8. Clumping litter is the best, but none of them are good for your plumbing. Best to scoop into the trash and get it to an outside trash can
