Safe Luxury

Who thinks MLB should incorporate instant replay to review calls?

I just saw a play during the yankee game, where Seattle player, willie bloomquist, was clearly out at 2nd by 2 ft. and the umpire called him safe!? Because of this, Seattle scored the tying run right after that play with two outs and ended up winning the game. I was really angry. Instant replay can be used in other plays as well such as if a ball is foul or fair, a home run or not (b/c of foul pole), if a player check swung or not, and maybe even balls or strikes( if clearly miscalled). If baseball had instant replay, than all of these situations could be solved.

  1. Not me. Games would last too long.
  2. I think they should but it would be a little too hard to control.
  3. No, it would pull the game from its roots and it would make it boring because of no fights or arguements
  4. me and fiance saw that too. he is a major yanks fan and he threw a fit!!! that was so uncool and i don't understand either why there is no instant replay on baseball. it is a bunch of crap! the dude was clearly out!
  5. I totally agree......just last night on the sunday night espn game the moron for an umpire at second awarded victorino second base after he was picked off first by the pitcher and got in a run down and victorino went at vizquel and chased him towards pitchers mound to hit him and the umpire awarded victorino second.....it was total bs. I dont know why the dont play under protest any more????? It was clearly a terrible call and it cost the giants at least one run, and changed the complex of the game. These guys make 283,000 minimum salary i think they should be punished or fined if they clearly miss a call. This guy should be throwed out of the league........but anyway as you can see i was mad just like you so heck yes bring on replay and get it right!!!!!!! I am adding to my post because it just happened 6 minutes after i typed this........rockies player hit a homerun and dumb azz ump called it a double it is in the ninth inning and tied 2 to 2 and should be 3 to 2 rockies. Manager seen it from dugout and got tossed but 4 umps cant see it????? Idiots and completely ridiculous!!!! Replay Replay Replay!!!!
  6. No way. I was watching the game myself and saw the play. but, baseball is just right the way it is. I think the only time instant replay was used was when the umpire couldn't tell if thre was a home run so he went to one of teh cameramen and had him replay teh footage. I think baseball should stay old school. It keeps the game pure.
  7. hell no thats for the nfl they suck.
  8. yes please...so many times its pissed me off
  9. It should be used in the postseason only. That's when those bozos should really be forced to get the calls right.
  10. I'd be for it, but I agree that it would be hard to control, and make the game even more agonizing to watch on TV. I'm for a 'pitch clock' too, but that's unlikely for the same reasons. Of course, I don't think baseball will attempt any improvements until after Selig's tenure. Maybe we could replay Clemens' messiah-like decision to come back with the Yankees.
  11. No Way !. It would add 30 minutes to game . keep it old school. No retractable domes, no DH, No Interleague play, no steroids, and no Selig. !
  12. I totally agree.
  13. As much as that was a horrible call, I don't think baseball should have instant replay. There are so many calls questioned during a game that it would take forever to play a game. I am not even a big fan of it in the NFL. Calls are rarely reversed, then at certain points plays aren't reviewable, baseball doesn't need that. Having said that, Davis's call tonight was AWFUL. Bloomquist was out by at least two feet, not even close. You can live with the "bang-bang" plays that go against your team, those happen to everyone. But this call was wrong, and it was the turning point of the game. Rivera did give up a homer in the ninth, but maybe things would have turned out differently had the right call been made.
  14. I'm a Yankee fan, and was furious by that play as well, but I'm still against instant replay. Umpires do a great job 95% of the time (more really....probably more like 97%). Instant replay would slow the game down to a crawl, especially if you begin to allow replay to challenge balls and strikes (a truly terrible idea....each at bat could take half an hour). The human element is part of the game, always has been.
  15. I don’t like instant replay but I can compromise. Only on close calls and if the challenge is lost the manager is ejected from the game. I say close calls because you see in football some times they will challenge a play even if it is off the wall challenge because of the cold chance in hell they might get it.
  16. yes and no i was watchin the braves game last night and they called a strike on a check swing, when chipper jones elbow crossed the plate, but his bat clearly did not. but on the flip side of it, the games would be a lot longer, and if that should be one of the rules, they should have enforced it a long time ago, not now.
  17. If it's against the Yankees, it's always the right call. :) On a serious note, I think they should keep instant replays out of it. What's next, a robot calling strikes? It's a human game, there will be bad calls. But tomorrow night, it may be in your favor.
  18. I was at that game tonight (and yesterday's game). From where the ump was, he couldn't see the play. I am a Yankees fan (well old school Yankees) and that call just made the game even more exciting. Rivera just stinks and keeps blowing games, so we can't blame it all on the call.
  19. I think so, it will calm Managers Nerves.
  20. No way. Baseball is already a fairly slow game, they dont need instant replay to slow it down more. Every once in a while an ump will make a bad call, you just have to rebound from that. Baseball is about adapting. You have to adapt to certain umpires strike zones, you have to adapt when an ump makes a bad call, but if your suggestions happened, baseball would be very very easy. The MLB umps are the best in the world, they barely ever miss a call, and even in this case in the Yankees game, the Yanks still had chances to get runs.
  21. Despite any particular play that may upset you (people in Toronto still say there was clearly a tripple play in the 1992 World Series...) the Ump's calls (or blown calls) are part of the game. It's not much different from a player making a fielding error, the runner isn't called out because "he would've thrown him out". If the fielder makes the error, we grumble and curse and move along with the game with the extra runner on base. Same thing with the Ump's call, we grumble and curse and move along with the game (though often with a yelling match with the Manager...) The Umpire's call in the heat of the moment is a large part of what gives Baseball it's character and adds drama to the game.
  22. I DO after that Yankee game last night for sure.
  23. It is time for a change. They should allow a challenge and if the decision is not over turned then the team who challenged it should be charged an error to the manager, and lose 1 point.
