I work a lot, and I am thinking of taking my puppy to doggy daycare. Are they a safe place for animals?
I have my 8 week old german rottie, and I have to work long hours at the office, and I am thinking about putting him in doggy day care. I have never done this before, but I figure that gives him plenty of time to socialize with other dogs and ppl. instead of being at home. any input on the do's and dont's of a "doggy daycare"?

- I would definately look into a place that is geared for doggy daycares. A lot of times, regular vets offer this, but the puppy goes out 3-6 times a day and spends most of the time in the cage. Of course there are some vets who have agility courses, pools, and other things like that to have a good and fun 'puppy play time.' There are a lot of centers thats are directly related to this. I'd just do my research and see whats available in your area. You would of course have to wait until your puppy gets older. I would wait until its older enough to receive the Bordetella Vaccination before I exposed it to other animals.
- Your puppy needs to be in an environment were it will have limited exposure to other dogs until its vaccination protocol is completed. Puppies need to sleep most of the day (about 18 hours a Day at least) but with short brakes for food water and play. Make sure the environment will allow your puppy a safe place away from other dogs where it can take its naps.
- go take a look around the facility. Do they provided scheduled activities for the dogs. Dogs love schedules. do they separate out the large dogs from the small dogs. Do they have the dogs exposed to chemicals, mop water, toilets? How are they doing the feeding.? Check out all those things and make sure you have or can get some referrals.
- doggie day care is great for pups but you puppy is way to young to be with all the other dogs until he has completed all his shots and i doubt they would take him without his shots. he should not go any place where there are other dogs or other dogs have been. your puppy is very susceptible to Parvo and other canine diseases. I'm curious why you would get a very young puppy when you work so many hours. puppies this young should not be left more than 4-6 hrs. alone at a time and you will have a hard time housebreaking the pup. you might look into a pet sitter that will come to your house a couple times a day and take puppy out to potty and play with it for a while. until he is old enough for day care.
