advice on transporting a digital piano on a flight?

i need to get my digital piano from california to UK preferably on a plane. It weighs no more than 100lbs and can be taken apart (ie, i will only take the main part of the piano, not the stand). Will i be allowed to do this? How can i pack it so it is safe from damage and can i get insurance to cover the flight?

  1. If you have homeowner's insurance, you might be covered under that policy. I know they do for theft, just not sure about damage. You may be able to add a rider to the policy specific to the keyboard. It may also be possible with renter's insurance. You need to get a hardshell cover, obviously; check with the manufacturer for the best packing tips. If you let the airlines know it's fragile, they'll cover it with fragile stickers that hopefully the baggage handlers will pay attention to.
