MalOtic safe for cats?

Took my cat to the vet yesterday and he said she had a yeast infection in her ears and gave me MalOtic 7.5 mg, apply liberal amt. twice daily. Got home later (after the vet's office hours) and read the box and insert before giving the medicine. It clearly says on both box and insert, "For otic use in dogs only." I've looked at several websites and get no real clear yea or nah as to whether this is safe for my cat, and thus I have not used it yet. Does anyone know?

1. iv not had this but my freinds cat had and it was fine,it is used for dogs mostly but they do give out for cats to but not so much
